GALESBURG — Scholarship applications for the 2022-23 academic year through the Carl Sandburg College Foundation are available until June 15.

The Sandburg Foundation awards more than $100,000 through dozens of scholarships each year to help Sandburg students achieve their dream of continuing their education. Applying for scholarships is free and open to anyone who plans to attend Sandburg for the 2022-23 academic year. Not all scholarships are based on academic excellence; many are based on other factors such as financial need and program of study.

In addition to the existing opportunities, there are seven new Sandburg scholarships for the 2022-23 academic year:

Carl Sandburg Prize
The Carl Sandburg Prize is given annually by the Carl Sandburg Historic Site Association to a full- or part-time student at Sandburg in honor of the College’s namesake Galesburg’s most famous son. The prize is one-time only and is not renewable. Students who are degree-seeking (associate) or non-degree seeking (program), are eligible for the prize. The award may be applied to academic or non-academic expenses.

Future Face of Nursing Scholarship
The Future Face of Nursing Scholarship was started by recent graduate Jessica Houdyshell in memory of John and Jennifer Houdyshell. This scholarship will be awarded to a deserving out-of-district student pursuing a degree in nursing. Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and financial need.

Katie Stone Memorial Scholarship
The Stone Family Scholarship assists first-year associate degree nursing students who reside in Knox County with their educational expenses. The Stone family hopes this scholarship helps support an incoming student with required program expenses.

Knoxville American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship
The Knoxville American Legion Auxiliary Scholarship is intended for students residing in the Knoxville School District. The Auxiliary would like to assist a student wishing to further their education, whether it be in a two-year degree or a certificate program. Preference will be given to a veteran or a student whose parent or grandparent is a veteran.

Kody Cares Firefighter/EMT Scholarship
The Kody Cares Firefighter/EMT Scholarship is in memory of Dakota “Kody” Taylor. From a young age, Kody knew that becoming a firefighter and helping others was his path and passion in life. The Kody Cares Firefighter/EMT Scholarship is available to returning or continuing students who also have a passion to pursue a firefighter/EMT program of study.

Phil and Mary Good Scholarship
Phil and Mary Good have spent a passionate and dynamic life together, working to make their hometown community of Kewanee a better place for everyone. This academic scholarship, open to all Sandburg students, pays homage to Phil and Mary’s can-do, entrepreneurial approach to all things in life.
